What married couples consider when embarking upon retirement planning.
Donna and John are a married couple, ages 72 and 74, who live in Pittsburgh, PA. John is concerned for his wife, who may need a deeper level of care. Donna, who feels concerned by John’s family’s medical history, wants to know she has support if she becomes John’s caregiver. Read their stories, below. Donna and John chose an all-inclusive plan.
John: “I’m a 72 year-old businessman who’s owned several restaurants up and down the East Coast, and my goal was always to save well so that we will be able to live well. I love to travel, and also love our home—and want to always live here.
Donna and I have been married for 50 years, and I know that she’d want to take care of me if anything ever happened. But if she gets sick, I wonder about how I could manage her care at home if she ever needed a deeper level of care. I attended a seminar because my friends said Longwood at Home is the premier way to age. Our membership covers us at home and in an assisted-living facility if either of us needs it. And we get a discount because there are two of us! Better yet, one year after enrolling, it covers us both 24/7 when we travel. We are both relieved to be members!”
Donna: “My husband and I have been very fortunate in our lives. I am very healthy, but I want to make sure that no matter what happens, I will have support caring for John (whose family has had some significant health issues). A friend told me about Longwood at Home and she said it's the perfect solution to being able to stay at home no matter what happens to him or me. All of our needs will always be covered whether we stay in our home or if we need a higher level of care in a facility. We are enjoying the discount for married couples. John loves the fact that one year after enrolling we are covered while we travel. Longwood at Home gives us just the coverage we need.”
